UN GIOIELLO DI CARLO SCARPA A VENEZIA

Attraversando le calli di Venezia, arrivando nella famosa e frequentatissima piazza San Marco ed uscendo un po’ dalle abituali mete turistiche, ci si può imbattere in un vero gioiello dell’architettura contemporanea: il negozio Olivetti.

Opera di Carlo Scarpa che lo progettò per l’azienda nel 1957, questo spazio è stato pensato per essere la vetrina per una delle più importanti aziende italiane dell’epoca e al tempo stesso per inserirsi in un contesto storico di rilievo.

Il progettista ha creato un ambiente raffinato, eclettico ed essenziale, con grande attenzione alla scelta dei materiali, anche molto diversi, ma perfettamente miscelati: tutti i pavimenti sono in marmo e vetro di Murano, il teak e il marmo bianco incorniciano le vetrine, uno zoccolo calcestruzzo mescolato a ciottoli disegna la parete esterna, i metalli formano geometrie incastonati nella pietra e le vetrate continue lungo tutto il perimetro del piano terra contribuiscono a creare un’osmosi tra l’interno e l’esterno.

Dal 2011 il negozio Olivetti è stato affidato al FAI che ha provveduto anche al suo restauro.

Crossing the venetian calli, after reaching the famous and very attended San Marco square and leaving the usual tourist routes, is it possible to see a real jewel of  contemporary architecture: Olivetti shop.

Carlo Scarpa designed  the shop in 1957 for Olivetti company. The place was projected as window of one of the most important Italian companies at the time and also to be part of a very high profile historical background.

The designer created a fine, eclectic and essential place and he took great care in the choice of materials which are so different but also perfectly mixed: all the floors are made in marble and Murano glasses, the windows are framed by teak and white marble, a concrete hoof mixed with stones draws the external wall, the metals form some geometrical shapes in the stone and the glass windows running along all the perimeter of the ground floor, create an osmosi between outside and inside the shop.

FAI takes care of Olivetti shop since 2011 and has also provided for its restoration.
