UN ESEMPIO DI ARCHITETTURA MODERNA SEMPRE ATTUALE: IL PALAZZO DELLA POSTSPARKASSE DI OTTO WAGNER

Il palazzo della Postsparkasse (Cassa di risparmio postale) di Vienna riassume in sé le principali linee guida della poetica di Otto Wagner e del Jugendstil, le cui forme minimali e funzionali hanno determinato un momento di rottura con la tradizione architettonica dell’Ottocento entrando a pieno titolo nell’epoca moderna del XX secolo. Anche la scelta dell’alluminio per i rivestimenti sia interni che esterni rappresentano per l’epoca una scelta totalmente innovativa. Visitare questa opera d’arte totale è stato davvero come fare un tuffo nei ferventi anni della Secessione Viennese. Costruito intorno al 1904, questo edificio ancora perfettamente conservato è oggi sede di una banca privata e la sala sportelli è visitabile dal pubblico durante gli orari di apertura. Al suo interno è presente anche  una mostra permanente dell’architetto viennese, nonché uno spazio espositivo con una programmazione varia. Otto Wagner progettò non solo l’architettura dell’edificio ma anche il mobilio, tra cui le famose sedie Postsparkasse prodotte da Thonet che rappresentano un’icona del design moderno e fanno gola a tanti appassionati e nostalgici dei tempi andati.

The palace of the Postsparkasse (Post Office Savings Bank) in Vienna summarizes the main guidelines of the Otto Wagner’s poetic and of the Jugendstil, whose minimal and functional forms break with the architectural tradition of the nineteenth fully entering in the modern era of the twentieth century. Even the choice of aluminum for  the internal and external claddings represent a totally innovative choice for the historical period. Visit this piece of art it was really like to take a dip in the fervent years of the Vienna Secession. Built around 1904, this building still perfectly preserved is now the location of a private bank and the customer hall is open to the public during the opening hours. Inside there is also a permanent exhibition of the Viennese architect, and an exhibition space with a diverse programming. Otto Wagner designed not only the architecture of the building but also the furniture, including the famous Postsparkasse chair produced by Thonet that represents an icon of modern design very admired by many nostalgic fans of yesteryear.
