Ci troviamo nel centro di Roma, in una delle piazze più iconiche della città: a ovest il fiume Tevere, al centro il Mausoleo di Augusto, tra questi l’Ara Pacis. Lontano dalla frenesia e dal traffico della capitale, sul lato nord della piazza sorge un incantevole palazzo dalle alte colonne in travertino bianco. È l’interpretazione della grande storia imperiale di Roma che l’architetto razionalista Vittorio Ballio Morpurgo ha realizzato tra il 1936 e il 1938. Probabilmente nella giornata più calda di tutto l’anno, siamo giunti proprio in questa piazza per testimoniare, attraverso i nostri scatti, la trasformazione di questo palazzo nella nona sede del Bulgari Hotel, progetto di Antonio Citterio e Patricia Viel (ACPV Architects).
Per la stratificazione storica, le dimensioni del progetto, e la quantità di dettagli è stato un processo complesso che non si può esaurire in una sola pubblicazione. Di seguito le prime fotografie, quasi un’introduzione al lavoro, di cui aspettatevi presto, nelle prossime newsletter, un seguito.

We are in the center of Rome, in one of the city’s most iconic squares: to the west, the Tiber River; in the center, the Mausoleum of Augustus; and in between, the Ara Pacis. Far from the hustle and traffic of the capital, on the northern side of the square stands a charming palace with tall columns made of white travertine. It’s the interpretation of Rome’s grand imperial history that the rationalist architect Vittorio Ballio Morpurgo realized between 1936 and 1938. Probably on the hottest day of the year, we arrived at this square to document, through our photographs, the transformation of this palace into the ninth location of the Bulgari Hotel, a project by Antonio Citterio and Patricia Viel (ACPV Architects).
Due to the historical layering, the project’s scale, and the abundance of details, it has been a complex process that cannot be fully covered in a single publication. Below are the first photographs, almost an introduction to the work. You can expect more in the upcoming newsletters.
