IMPORTANZA DELLA MANIGLIA – LA MANO CERCA LA MANIGLIA E VI SI ADATTA AL MEGLIO QUANDO ESSA È BEN PROGETTATA

“C’è qualcosa di innaturale in una porta automatica, qualcosa che mette a disagio. Persino quel secondo che ci mette ad aprirsi a volte ci sembra troppo lungo. Perché? Perché le porte vanno aperte. L’uomo è strutturalmente fatto per aprire porte. E per aprire le porte è necessario avere una maniglia. Pensate a una porta di legno completamente liscia e con i cardini, senza maniglia. E’ chiaro che deve essere una porta che si apre a spinta. Le porte ci sono perché possano aprirsi. Le porte chiuse sono innaturali, sono contro natura. La maniglia è rassicurante perché ci dice che noi possiamo aprire quella porta nella maniera più naturale possibile…. 

L’importanza della maniglia è dunque nel fatto che ci permette di compiere in maniera pienamente voluta e controllata un gesto naturale e intensamente simbolico quale l’apertura di una porta. E’ la maniglia a farci godere persino l’incertezza e il timore nell’aprire una porta quando non sappiamo che cosa c’è al di là. Forse anche l’emozione di un incontro o la paura. Immaginate la porta di un castello fatato che si apre automaticamente? Il senso del mistero, bello o brutto che sia, va mediato da una apertura lenta, da un gesto che è plasmato dall’intenzionalità, dalla volontà, dal sentimento o anche dalla sbadataggine… “

Vi propongo l’interpretazione che ho fatto di alcuni modelli di maniglie della ditta Olivari, azienda leader del settore che da sempre si affida per la progettazione dei propri prodotti ad architetti e designer di tutto il mondo.

“There’s something unnatural in an automatic door, something which discomforts. It takes a second to open, but even that second seems too long. Why this ? Because doors must be opened. Doors opening is in the human nature. But a knob is necessary to open a door. Let’s think about a smoothed door made by a good wood with hinges but without any knob. It’s obvious that it must be opened pushing it. Doors exist right to be opened. Closed doors are unnatural, they are against nature. A knob is peaceful as it suggests that we can open that door in the most natural way…

Therefore the knob is important as it’s the mean which gives us the possibility to perform a simple and natural act like opening a door. This act is full of consciousness and symbolism. Even though we don’t know what there will be walking through the door, the knob let us enjoy the uncertainty and even the apprehension of that moment. Maybe  also the emotion of a meeting or the fear. Can you imagine the door of a faery castle which opens automatically? The sense of mistery, either it’s good or bad, must be mediated by a slow opening, by a free gesture guided by feelings of by the absence of mind.”
