GIO PONTI A PALAZZO BO

L’Università di Padova non è solo una delle più antiche del mondo (quest’anno compie ben 800 anni), non ospita solo più di 40.000 studenti, non è solamente il luogo dove fu costruito e dove ancora oggi si può ammirare l’Osservatorio Astronomico di Galileo Galilei: l’Università di Padova ospita anche un intervento di Gio Ponti a Palazzo Bo.

Architetto e designer, Gio Ponti è un nome che tutti conosciamo. A distanza di esattamente 80 anni da quando fu chiamato dall’allora Rettore Carlo Anti, gli affreschi, gli ornamenti e gli arredi (oltre 500!) che aveva creato specificatamente per quel luogo ritornano al loro splendore originale grazie a un restauro con approccio filologico, il cui obiettivo è stato riportare gli oggetti a forme, finiture e colori originali grazie allo studio accurate degli archivi storici presenti nell’Ateneo.  

Il restauro, iniziato nell’estate 2021, si è concluso poche settimane fa.

The University of Padua is not only one of the oldest universities in the world (this year it turns 800 years old), it is not only home to more than 40,000 students, it is not only the place where Galileo Galilei’s Astronomical Observatory was built and can still be admired today: the University of Padua also hosts an intervention by Gio Ponti at Palazzo Bo.

Architect and designer, Gio Ponti is a name we all know. Precisely 80 years after he was called by the then Rector Carlo Anti, the frescoes, ornaments and furnishings (more than 500!) that he created specifically for that place are returning to their original splendor thanks to a restoration with a philological approach, whose goal was to restore the objects to their original shapes, finishes and colors thanks to an accurate study of the historical archives present in the University. 

The restoration, which began in the summer of 2021, was completed a few weeks ago.
